The Bangsamoro Government, in collaboration with various partners, is set to drive the growth of the coffee industry in the BARMM region. This initiative follows the recent election of a new Regional Coffee Council in Cotabato City by the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT).
This move signifies a strong commitment to revitalize the coffee industry in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), aiming to enhance competitiveness and foster growth within the region’s coffee sector. The elected council members will spearhead activities to enhance production standards, expand market reach, and forge partnerships to elevate BARMM’s standing in the national coffee market.
Recognizing the region’s potential as a significant player in the Philippine coffee industry, stakeholders have prioritized the establishment of an inclusive Regional Coffee Council to address escalating domestic demand and drive sustainable development in the long term. This strategic approach aims to position BARMM as a key contributor to the country’s coffee landscape.
The newly elected council officers, led by Jalika Mangacop as chairperson, are tasked with steering efforts towards improving production quality, broadening market access, and fostering collaborations to drive growth and bolster BARMM’s presence in the national coffee industry. With Maguindanao ranking seventh among coffee-producing provinces in the Philippines, the region holds substantial promise for further industry development.
As part of a concerted effort to boost the coffee sector, the MTIT-Industry Development and Investment Promotion Division, in partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, initiated the council election under the CRESCENT Project funded by the European Union. This endeavor also included informative sessions on best practices and success stories in coffee industry development.
The interim government remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting the coffee industry in the region, aligning with the MTIT’s mandate to stimulate investment, drive industrial growth, and foster inclusive economic progress across all BARMM provinces. By actively engaging with industry partners, the BARMM government aims to create a sustainable and thriving coffee sector that contributes significantly to the region’s economic landscape.
With Mindanao hosting seven of the top ten coffee-producing provinces in the country, the BARMM region stands poised to capitalize on its coffee potential and emerge as a notable player in the national coffee market. The concerted efforts of the Bangsamoro Government and its partners underscore a shared vision to propel the region’s coffee industry to new heights, fostering economic growth and sustainability in the process.
