Nestlé has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Thai coffee farmers by signing a new Memorandum of Understanding with the Thai Coffee Growers Association. This partnership, spanning the upcoming harvest season, underscores Nestlé’s dedication to buying Robusta coffee beans directly from local farmers and advocating for sustainable farming practices.
The signing ceremony took place in Chumphon Province, a significant coffee production hub in Thailand, and was graced by the provincial governor, underscoring the initiative’s importance to the local economy. Nestlé’s support extends beyond bean purchases, as the company will also impart knowledge on Regenerative Agriculture to farmers, focusing on enhancing soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity to bolster climate resilience and improve crop yields and quality.
Salinla Seehaphan, Corporate Affairs Director at Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., highlighted Nestlé’s longstanding support for local coffee farmers, emphasizing the company’s role as a major buyer of Robusta beans in Thailand. The annual MoU signings reinforce Nestlé’s commitment to directly sourcing coffee beans from Thai farmers and aiding them in implementing Regenerative Agriculture practices through educational programs and training sessions.
Thianchai Chookittiwiboon, Governor of Chumphon Province, commended Nestlé’s efforts, recognizing the economic significance of coffee to the region. He lauded Nestlé’s contributions towards positioning the province as a global hub for Robusta coffee production, aligning with the province’s vision of becoming a prominent “Robusta Metropolis.”
Prayoon Songprasert, Chairman of the Thai Coffee Growers Association, echoed the sentiments of gratitude towards Nestlé, citing the positive outcomes of Nestlé’s high-yield plantlets and training programs, which have resulted in improved quality and increased incomes for farmers.
With this renewed collaboration, Nestlé continues to drive progress in Thailand’s coffee industry by championing sustainability, elevating farmer livelihoods, and securing the future of Robusta cultivation in the country. By empowering local coffee growers and promoting environmentally-friendly practices, Nestlé plays a pivotal role in advancing the coffee sector while fostering economic growth and resilience within coffee-growing communities.
