Concordia University is set to unveil the Stingers Café, a new hotspot for coffee aficionados and food enthusiasts on the Sir George Williams Campus. Nestled on the fourth floor of the Henry F. Hall Building, the café’s grand opening extravaganza is scheduled for January 22 and 23, promising a plethora of deals, free tastings, and surprises.
Although the café has been discreetly serving its signature Stingers Roast Coffee since November, the grand opening signals the launch of its full menu, offering a vibrant introduction to this dynamic space.
The inaugural day of the grand opening is brimming with activities and perks to entice visitors:
Patrons can relish complimentary drip coffee all day long, sample a signature Stingers Roast drink, and indulge in an array of menu items. Interactive tables will host games, giveaways, and mini tastings, while the distribution of loyalty cards will kickstart customers on their rewards journey.
The festivities continue into the second day with added incentives like a free fair-trade cookie with any coffee purchase, double loyalty card punches, and more samplings of the Stingers Roast signature drink.
Concordia’s Food Services team has envisioned the Stingers Café not just as a coffee shop but as a bustling culinary hub catering to the diverse preferences of students, staff, and visitors. Drawing inspiration from community feedback, the café offers a range of hand-crafted sandwiches, hot entrées, pastries, and daily soups, alongside grab-and-go items like salads, sandwiches, and yogurt parfaits.
Moreover, the café boasts a full spectrum of fair-trade Stingers Roast Coffee, locally roasted by Brûleries Faro, available in various forms including espressos, lattes, and iced coffees. The café’s ambiance is further enriched by a mural narrating a May 2023 origin trip to Nariño, Colombia, where Concordia students visited coffee farms that supply beans for Stingers Roast Coffee.
Aspen Murray, a PhD student in geography, urban, and environmental studies, reflects on the eye-opening experience of the trip, emphasizing the labor and dedication inherent in coffee production and the strengthened partnership with farmers. Concordia Food Services proudly sources its beans from Manos de Mujeres, a collective of women-owned farms in Colombia, supporting gender equality and sustainability in the coffee industry.
Stingers Roast Coffee aligns with Concordia’s dedication to fair-trade practices, contributing to the university’s recognition as one of only four Silver-designated Fair Trade Campuses in Canada. Each cup of coffee purchased at the café bolsters fair wages, improved working conditions, and a brighter future for farmers and their families.
Mark your calendars for the grand opening of the Stingers Café on January 22 and 23 at the Henry F. Hall Building, a celebration not to be missed!
