Dekáf Coffee Roasters, a new venture by the minds behind Jaho Coffee, has set out to redefine decaffeinated coffee. Khanh Nguyen and Anil Mezini recently introduced this direct-to-consumer brand, aiming to showcase that decaf coffee can be just as exceptional as its caffeinated counterpart. Nguyen emphasized that decaf coffee has untapped potential, lacking the attention and care given to regular coffee.
Offering a range of nine single-origin decaf coffees and six blends, Dekáf ensures quality by using a separate roaster for decaffeinated beans. This meticulous approach extends to their equipment, with decaf beans being exclusively roasted in designated machines to prevent any caffeine contamination. Mezini stressed the importance of isolating decaffeinated coffees to maintain consistent quality throughout the production process.
The idea for Dekáf was conceived five years ago, leading to extensive research on decaffeination methods, sourcing strategies, and brand development. Most of Dekáf’s offerings use the Swiss Water Process, known for its gentle decaffeination method. Mezini highlighted their commitment to sourcing and roasting top-tier coffees, ensuring that customers enjoy a premium decaf experience.
Responding to consumer demand, Dekáf is exploring blends with functional additives like mushrooms, gingko, or ginseng. They are also developing ready-to-mix coffee concentrates and a range of caffeine-controlled herbal teas. Nguyen expressed enthusiasm for innovation in the coffee industry, emphasizing the endless possibilities to enhance the coffee experience.
As the specialty coffee market evolves, Dekáf aims to challenge norms and expand the boundaries of coffee enjoyment. With a focus on quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction, this new brand seeks to revolutionize the perception of decaf coffee and offer a diverse range of products to cater to evolving consumer preferences.
