Authentic Books in downtown Orlando is set to make a significant change as it transitions its weekend coffee pop-up lounge into a permanent fixture within the bookstore. The decision comes after the bookstore expanded its sensory subscription service into a physical store earlier in the year, offering both a bookstore experience and serving as an order fulfillment center. Owner Natisha Asbell recently acquired the neighboring space to use as a packing studio, leading to the conversion of half of the shop into a cozy “bookish lounge.”
Since early October, Natisha Asbell has collaborated with Cafecito Mio, a local coffee catering service, to host café pop-ups in the newly transformed space on select weekends. Cafecito Mio, founded by Veronica Martinez, specializes in craft drinks, lattes, chai, and artisan sodas, aligning with Authentic Books’ vision of enhancing the reading experience by offering themed signature drinks corresponding to the featured book of the month.
Veronica Martinez, the mastermind behind Cafecito Mio, expressed her enthusiasm for this new venture with Authentic Books. Starting her coffee business as a catering service with occasional pop-ups at local venues, Martinez infuses her Puerto Rican heritage into her offerings, aiming to unite people through the art of coffee. The decision to draw inspiration from Puerto Rican flavors and traditions stems from Martinez’s roots and her desire to represent ethnic coffee culture.
Both Veronica Martinez and Natisha Asbell are gearing up to launch the coffee space within the bookstore lounge in January. While the specific opening date and name remain undisclosed at this time, the collaboration between Cafecito Mio and Authentic Books promises an exciting fusion of coffee culture and literary ambiance. Authentic Books stands out as one of the few minority- and woman-owned bookstores in Orlando, making this partnership even more significant.
This development marks a pivotal moment for both Cafecito Mio and Authentic Books, signifying a deeper integration of coffee culture within the bookstore’s offerings. As the two entities prepare to unveil their joint coffee venture, patrons can anticipate a unique sensory experience that blends literature with the rich flavors of Puerto Rican coffee traditions.
