Warwickshire County Council recently hosted the 21st annual Celebrating Engineering Excellence event at the Old Shire Hall in Warwick. The gathering, attended by over 50 individuals including council leaders and members, showcased the remarkable work being done in the county’s highways and infrastructure.
More than just a routine review, the event underscored the talent, commitment, and innovation of Warwickshire’s engineering teams. It provided a platform for colleagues to reconnect, exchange knowledge, and highlight the profound impact of their projects on residents and local communities.
This year’s focus on communication resonated throughout the presentations, emphasizing the importance of engaging with communities affected by engineering initiatives. It emphasized that successful engineering goes beyond technical aspects to encompass people, collaboration, and considerate implementation.
Three standout projects were featured, demonstrating expertise in traffic management, bridge works, and collaborative efforts. The A4177 Birmingham Road project, in partnership with Taylor Wimpey, showcased strategic traffic planning and effective communication to minimize disruptions during construction.
The Ford Foundry and Queensway Roundabouts scheme aimed at enhancing traffic flow in key transport corridors, integrating active travel routes and innovative structural solutions to meet future demands. The Manor House Culvert refurbishment project utilized Glass Reinforced Plastic lining to prolong infrastructure lifespan with minimal disruption to the community.
Cllr Nigel Golby, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, commended Warwickshire’s engineers for their sustainable and innovative practices, emphasizing the role of communication in shaping the county’s future. He expressed gratitude to staff, partners, and residents for their support in maintaining Warwickshire’s connectivity and forward-thinking approach.
