A young woman has been sentenced to nearly three years in jail for orchestrating a sophisticated drug trafficking operation involving methylamphetamine and liquid G between Melbourne and Tasmania. Madelon Lili Pace, 24, concealed drugs inside a coffee machine, vacuum-sealing them into bags and using encrypted messaging apps to coordinate the illicit trade. The Supreme Court heard that Pace adopted fake identities, flew between states, and packaged drugs creatively to avoid detection.
Over a 10-month period, Pace trafficked a total of 582.15 grams of methylamphetamine and three liters of liquid G. She purchased drugs in Melbourne, disguised them in various ways, and dispatched parcels to Tasmania for distribution. Authorities intercepted one such package in July 2024, replacing the illicit substances with a harmless material and apprehending Pace upon her attempt to retrieve it.
During the investigation, Pace’s phone revealed extensive evidence of drug transactions, including significant quantities of meth and liquid G. Financial records indicated deposits totaling $77,357.94 over seven months, underscoring the lucrative nature of her criminal activities. The estimated street value of the seized drugs exceeded $600,000, depending on the mode of sale.
Justice Robert Pearce, presiding over the case, emphasized Pace’s culpability in perpetuating addiction despite her own struggles with methylamphetamine dependency. He acknowledged her cooperation with law enforcement and early admission of guilt, suggesting that rehabilitation remained a viable option if she addressed her substance abuse issues. However, the judge highlighted the gravity of Pace’s offenses, warranting a substantial prison term.
Pace’s sentence, backdated to August 2024, includes a penalty matching her criminal proceeds and offers eligibility for parole after serving half the term. Despite considerations for her mother’s health, Pearce emphasized that the consequences of Pace’s actions were self-inflicted.
