In July, South Australia’s coffee aficionados are gearing up for the AeroPress Championship hosted by PATIO Coffee Roasters in Richmond. The competition will bring together 24 local talents to showcase their skills using the innovative AeroPress method to brew the perfect cup of coffee.
PATIO Coffee Roasters, situated in Richmond, is set to transform its cafe-style cellar door into a vibrant venue for the championship, with an expected turnout of around 80 guests. The AeroPress, conceptualized by Alan Adler in 2005, has revolutionized coffee brewing with its simple yet efficient design, renowned for producing rich, clean, and flavorful coffee.
The South Australian event is a significant segment of the global AeroPress circuit, culminating in the prestigious World AeroPress Championship. This international contest, which originated in Oslo in 2008 with just three participants, has now expanded to over 60 countries, engaging more than 5,000 participants annually. The upcoming finals are scheduled for December in Seoul.
Heading the World AeroPress Championship is Tim Williams, Director of Melbourne’s Fieldwork Coffee, who has played a key role in maintaining the competition’s independent spirit. Collaborating with Tim is Creative Director Grant Gamble, known for his work at Culture Coffee Project and Leaderboard: The Coffee Game.
Basil Papas, the founding director of PATIO Coffee Roasters, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the SA AeroPress Championship, emphasizing the community-centric and joyous nature of the event. The competition is generously supported by sponsors including Harvest Town Coffee, La Marzocco, The Alternative Dairy Company, Sublime Catering, and Big Shed Brewing.
As the competition day approaches, PATIO Coffee Roasters is gearing up to provide a memorable experience for all participants and spectators.
