Coffee Creamer Recall: 75,000 Bottles Withdrawn for Spoilage Concerns

A significant recall has been initiated for coffee creamer products, with over 75,000 bottles being withdrawn due to concerns about spoilage and potential health issues. The parent company of International Delight coffee creamer, Danone, took action following reports of spoilage and related illnesses associated with their products. Initially, a voluntary recall was announced on February 21, but the situation escalated when the United States Food and Drug Administration raised it to a Class II recall, signifying a higher risk level.

The recall specifically affects two flavors of the coffee creamer – the 32-ounce bottles of Hazelnut creamer and the 32-ounce bottles of Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll. A total of 75,054 bottles were recalled, with expiration dates in early July 2025. The affected products, identified by the producing plant code of 51-4114 R-S, were distributed across thirty-one states in the U.S.

Danone North America clarified that the recall was prompted by a quality issue leading to premature spoilage, resulting in textural abnormalities. Despite the disappointment this may cause to consumers, the company assured that the problem does not pose a food safety risk. The decision to recall the products was made out of an abundance of caution to address the quality concern.

In the broader context of product recalls in 2025, various food items have faced similar issues. Notably, an update was made to the recall of a popular lemonade brand due to the presence of a food additive linked to heightened cancer risks. Oak Cliff Beverage Works voluntarily recalled its Beverage Base Lemonade in January, citing the undeclared presence of a synthetic food dye, Yellow 5, in the drink. The recall affected units sold in multiple states, with specific “best by” dates provided for different container sizes.

The lemonade recall was classified as a Class II recall as of February 25, indicating the potential for temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects from consuming the product. This regulatory action underscores the importance of food safety standards and the vigilance required in monitoring product quality and adherence to regulations.

As food safety remains a critical concern for consumers, recalls such as these serve as reminders of the complex supply chain processes and quality control measures necessary to ensure the integrity of food products. Companies must prioritize transparency, quality assurance, and swift action in addressing any issues that may compromise consumer health and confidence in their products.
